Higher Speaking Questions — Mark Scheme
Role-play (10 marks) In the Role-play, you’ll be marked on how accurately you respond to spoken language. There are 2 marks available for each of the five tasks in the Role-play (10 marks in total). If you are required to give two responses or details in one task, failure to convey an unambiguous message in reply to one of them means that the message is partially conveyed and one mark is awarded.

Reading aloud (15 marks) The Reading aloud task is divided into two parts. There are 5 marks available for reading the text aloud, and then 10 marks are available for answering the four compulsory questions.

Photo card (25 marks) For the Photo card task, you’re marked on three separate criteria. 5 marks are available for your response to the content of the photos on the card, whilst 20 marks are available for the unprepared conversation — 15 marks for ‘communication’ and 5 marks for ‘grammar and vocabulary’.
